| Introducing CCMN
The Cell Church Missions Network came into being in Hong Kong around about 1997, actually as the missions arm of the then newly developing Hong Kong Cell Church Network. This network of churches from various denominations were sharing resources, working together in training and outreach… and beginning both short term and long term mission involvement together. In 1998, Ben Wong, pastor of Shepherd Community Grace Church and one of the key leaders in the Hong Kong Cell Church Network, felt prompted by God to call together cell church pastors and leaders from the Asia-Pacific region for a "Praying and Dreaming Summit". This was to be a gathering of leaders which had no agenda, no invited speakers… simply an opportunity for leaders to get to know each other, share their dreams, and pray together to see how God might want them to work together. There was an almost unanimous feeling among the 80-90 participants at that time that such Summits should be held annually, and that the name for this growing network of cell churches should be Cell Church Missions Network. The reason for this was the conviction that God has raised up the cell church movement not just to help individual churches grow more effectively in their local area, but to become a major part of the move of God in these last days to reach those who are as yet unreached with the Gospel. Since that time these annual CCMN Summits have continued to grow in both size and significance, as key leaders and networkers from every continent gather to build relationships, pray and connect with others of like mind and vision. Besides Hong Kong, Summits have also been held in Indonesia and (this year) in Taiwan. At the 2001 Summit there was a suggestion that instead of a global Summit, regional Summits should be held for the next 2-3 years. However, wiser voices prevailed by stressing that God was giving the cell church movement worldwide some significant momentum; continuing to bring leaders together annually would maintain and reinforce this momentum. CCMN is not an organization as such, but rather a description of something which is happening to varying degrees all over the world today: cell churches networking and cooperating together to fulfill the Great Commission, both locally and cross-culturally. A key factor in the success of this networking to date is expressed in the motto, "No control; no glory!" No one tries to control anyone else… and everything is done so that God alone receives glory. Anything done together does not belong to any one group or person, but to God! |
